Who We Are

A Bahamian-based, registered not-for-profit organization providing residential care and refuge
for abused, abandoned or neglected infants and children up to age 14. Each child is legally a
ward of the Government and the Department of Social Services entrusts the children to our
care. We are responsible for providing a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for the
children to feel loved and protected. The GBCH is governed by The Bahamas Residential Care

Act and The Bahamas Child Protection Act.

Our Mission

The Grand Bahama Children's Home (GBCH) is a safe haven for abandoned, abused and
neglected children in the Northern Bahamas (Grand Bahama, Abaco and Bimini). Were
committed to giving the best care we can so that each child can heal and thrive.

Purpose

To provide a safe place to stay and a chance to heal.

We wish there were no need for the Home. Unfortunately, our children are here because they have nowhere else safe to go. Whether it is because of abuse, abandonment or neglect, our children come to us through no fault of their own. Sometimes, children stay for a short time while relatives or foster parents can be identified or families can be rehabilitated. Other children spend most of their childhood years with us. A very small percentage of our children are orphaned.  We cannot prevent the heartbreaking circumstances and horrific abuse many of these little children have experienced. We can, however, make a difference.
